Odd Fellows Membership Cost: Dues, Initiation Fees, and What to Ask Locally

There is no honest national price tag. Expect a one-time initiation fee and recurring dues, then ask the local secretary for a current line-item quote.

This guide uses official Odd Fellows, Grand Lodge, and lodge sources. Procedures, prices, and event access can vary by jurisdiction and lodge.

The accurate answer is local

A prospective member should expect a one-time initiation fee and recurring dues, but there is no universal Odd Fellows price. The Sovereign Grand Lodge describes a “small initiation fee” without publishing a dollar amount. Texas and Massachusetts both say lodges charge an initiation fee and annual dues, and both state that each lodge sets its own dues. [1] [2] [3]

That is why a national average can be misleading. The only quote that matters for a decision is the current amount from the specific lodge you may join.

Use examples as illustrations, not promises

Massachusetts says dues there tend to be around $80 annually. That is a Massachusetts-only tendency, not a nationwide rate. [3] Sycamore Lodge #129 in Hayward, California publishes yearly membership dues of $85, including a $60 mandatory Grand Lodge and Sovereign Grand Lodge portion and $25 that supports the local lodge. Its published card-payment total is $88.10 because it includes a Square processing fee. [4]

Those figures are useful because they show why a lodge’s total may include more than one component. They are not a quote for Farmington, Missouri, or for any other lodge. Published dues can also change, so confirm the current number directly.

Five questions for the lodge secretary

Ask for a simple, current line-item explanation before you apply. It is reasonable to ask when dues are due, whether the first year is prorated, and whether optional meals, events, donations, or purchases are separate from membership dues. The official Lodge Directory directs people with membership questions to the appropriate Grand Lodge if they cannot get the answer from a local lodge. [5]

  • What is the one-time initiation fee?
  • What are the current annual dues, and when are they due?
  • Does the total include local, Grand Lodge, or Sovereign Grand Lodge assessments?
  • Is the first year prorated or collected in full?
  • Are meals, events, donations, or payment-processing charges separate?
